For others though, there is one aspect of a vacation abroad that’s not so much fun… Communicating in English. d. All the answers are correct
As you may already know, there are words that are used differently in the US and UK (England). In other parts of the world you’ll usually find a mix of the two different styles of English. You shouldn’t worry about it too much, but I would suggest using the American version if you’re not sure which is best in a certain place.
Here are some examples:
American English | British English |
Rent (a car) | Hire (a car) |
Elevator | Lift |
Apartment | Flat |
Check (at a restaurant) | Bill (at a restaurant) |
French fries | Chips |
Potato chips | Crisps |
Soccer | Football |
Sweater | Jumper |
Truck | Lorry |
Gas/Gasoline | Petrol |
Mailbox | Postbox |
Subway | Underground |
That’s it for now!
Thanks for taking the time to read this Newsletter. We hope you found it useful and interesting.
See you next time and enjoy your summer vacation!
